Holiday gift giving: Our cookbook recommendations

Devoted to all things flavorful, the team at SalterieOne spends lots of time cooking for fun at home and we derive inspiration from a variety of sources. During a recent team meeting, we shared with each other a few of our favorite cookbooks and realized this list might be helpful to others looking for holiday gifts for the chefs (expert and aspiring) in their lives! We hope this list of recommendations helps inspire you or someone you love in the kitchen!

For the person just learning to cook: The Joy of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer, Marion Rombauer Becker, et al. Clocking in at more than 600 pages, this invaluable resource will guide the beginner cook in all aspects of the kitchen and serve as a go-to reference for the skilled chef alike. According to SalterieOne founder Lily, a copy belongs in *every* home kitchen library.

For the person dedicated to seasonal ingredients and simple yet elevated cooking: The Art of Simple Food: Notes, Lessons, and Recipes from a Delicious Revolution by Alice Waters. Credited with starting the sustainable food movement in the 1970s with her restaurant Chez Panisse in Berkley California, Alice Waters makes simple, rustic cuisine attainable for the home chef. This monumental tome to approachable refined flavors was recommended by Salt Harvester Inge, who loves transforming simple ingredients into elegant dishes.

For the person who reads cookbooks instead of novels: The Art of Eating Well by Pellegrino Artusi, 1820-1911. The English translation of this cookbook is difficult to find but worth the effort. Travel back in time as the writings of each recipe give the reader a peek into the culture, mindset and ways of cooking in Italy in the last century that still work well today. A lover of all things Italian, Michelle recommends this book as a cooking resource as well as a welcome escape to far off times and places.

For the person who loves elegant flavors but is short on time: Jacques Pépin Quick & Simple by Jacques Pépin. With more than 30 cookbooks to his name, this latest edition makes creative recipes with a French flair delicious and easy to achieve. He includes time-saving tips and clever ways to streamline prep work, making this a resource for weeknight meals and weekend cooking-as-entertainment. Team Member Emily may have gifted this book to her friends, but she'd also admit it has become a go-to resource for simple and flavorful inspiration.

For the person who loves to cook and wants energetic culinary inspiration: Eat Delicious: 125 Recipes for Your Daily Dose of Awesome by Dennis Prescott. With gorgeous photos of approachable comfort food recipes from around the globe, Master Salt Harvester Brooke is confident this cookbook will inspire you to expand your cooking repertoire in the kitchen and have fun doing it!
